Description
Decadance is not a dance piece; Decadance is a playground! It was created by Ohad Naharin in 2000 as his own birthday present to mark his first10 years as artistic director of the Batsheva Dance Company. From the outset, Decadance was conceived as a journey of discovery, with the aim of exploring and rearranging his choreographic work in a playful way. Even the very first Decadance combined short excerpts from his works, which, like in a kaleidoscope, come together to form a new whole. Ohad Naharin has remained true to this principle. Naturally, the pool of pieces from which the master choreographer rom Israel draws has grown over the years. Consequently, Decadance is no longer confined to Batsheva’s repertoire but is performed by leading companies worldwide. Naharin takes all the more care to create an individual selection tailor-made for each company. He has done this before for Gauthier Dance. In 2019, Decadance formed part of the COLOURS opening premiere, Classy Classics. Needless to say, the Gauthier Dance production of Decadance for 2027 will not simply be a revival, but a reimagined playground. Especially as, unlike the mixed programme for COLOURS, the aim is to create a full-length show. It will be interesting to see what the creator of Gaga comes up with for Gauthier Dance this time…
